Wednesday 15 Sep | Global Health Drinks EveningAnyone interested in global health, or exploring opportunities to volunteer, work or undertake research in the developing world is invited to attend. Topic: Opportunities in clinical research, public health work and surgery in Vietnam SpeakersDr Greg FoxGreg will be speaking on his experience undertaking a PhD in tuberculosis research, and the joys and challenges of public health work in Vietnam. Greg has been living in Vietnam for more than a year. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in respiratory medicine, as well as holding an MPH from Usyd, and was co-founder of Global Health Drinks and the Medical Students Aid Project at UNSW. He is a true trailblazer in the area of global health. Dr Stef FoxStef will be speaking on her experience working in multiple areas of general practice in a developing country, including local GP and public health projects and in GP clinics for the ex-pat community. Stef has been in Vietnam for over a year, having just completed her training as a fellow of the Royal Australian College of GPs, as well as having recently completed an MPH. Stef has also been heavily involved in GHDs since its inception. Dr Mark Louie JohnsunMark is a Urological Surgeon who balances a busy practise in Gosford with regular trips to Vietnam to undertake volunteer work providing specialist surgical care to patients who otherwise would be unable to access the help they need, as well as training local surgeons and health care workers. Mark will be talking on the great benefits to the local community and the personal joys of such work, as well as the challenges of such work including sustainability, capacity building, logistics and funding. His insights will be priceless to anyone interested in undertaking surgical outreach work in the future. |
