Referrals & Advice

Referrals

General Surgeons Australia (GSA) is a professional not-for-profit organisation, and cannot provide medical advice, a second opinion, or referrals to specific General Surgeons.

General Surgical Advice

Your General Surgeon is committed to providing you with the best treatment for your condition. In the first instance you may need to see your family doctor to be referred to a surgeon.

Once you see your surgeon they will be able to provide you with further information about your diagnosis, treatment alternatives, and the course of care, especially expectations for surgical outcomes.   Ask questions, discuss the risks of the course of treatment (including complications), and seek further clarification when you are unsure.  It is important that you share all relevant information with your surgeon.

Finding a General Surgeon

Your family doctor will be in a position to refer you to a General Surgeon in your area.

Financial members of GSA who have demonstrated appropriate participation and compliance with Continuing Professional Development can elect to have their details published in the ‘Find a Surgeon’ section of this website. The membership directory may be useful in helping you to identify a General Surgeon in your area.
