SEAM

Surgical Education and Assessment Modules (SEAM)

The SEAM program replaces the Surgical Sciences Examination (SSE) - Specialty Specific, and comprises eight online learning modules:

  1. Acute Abdomen
  2. Haematology
  3. Anatomy
  4. The Operating Theatre
  5. Nutrition
  6. Peri-Operative Care
  7. Critical Care & Trauma
  8. Post Operative Care (including Rehabilitation and Palliative Care)

Please click on the hyperlinks above to download the topic overviews for each module.

Trainees commencing on the SET Program in General Surgery in 2014 will be required to complete SEAM as per the Regulations, and not be required to undertake the SSE - Specialty Specific. All trainees will still be required to complete the Clinical Examination and Surgical Sciences Generic Examination, as per the current RACS policies. Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the Regulations, which are available on the GSA website for Australian trainees here.

Instructions on accessing SEAM are outlined in the Procedures Manual.

Note: A small number have trainees have reported difficulty progressing from the Formative Assessment when using Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) as a web browser. This is a compatibility issue with IE9 and Moodle. We recommend installing Firefox if possible to avoid experiencing this progression issue. Should you experience difficulties, please take a screen shot of your error, and email the details of your web browser to admin@generalsurgeons.com.au

SEAM Anatomy

Specific Instructions on accessing SEAM Anatomy are outlined in the SEAM Anatomy Procedures Manual.

You must use your personal computer (not a public or hospital computer) and one browser (preferably Firefox) when completing this module. This will ensure that your answers are saved and only accessible by you over multiple sessions.

You can exit your browser at any time and come back to the module later. However, please note that you must use the same browser (e.g. Firefox) and the same device for all of your sessions in order to access any answers entered previously.

It is your responsibility to save an electronic copy of your workbook before exiting each session!
