Core Skills: Laparoscopic General Surgery

This cadaveric Laparoscopic General Surgery Trainee workshop provides SET 1 - 3  General Surgical Trainees with the opportunity to learn new skills in a range of procedures in minimal access surgery. Trainees will deepen their understanding and skills through a combination of presentations, demonstrations and practical cadaveric sessions.

Workshop content:

  • Entry techniques
  • Trocar placement
  • Instrument placement
  • Role of the assistant
  • Dealing with difficult cases
  • Critical points during surgery
  • Dealing with an emergency situation

 Demonstrations and Cadaveric Practical Sessions:

  • Trocar placement
  • Laparoscopic appendicectomy
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Laparoscopic extraperitoneal inguinal hernia and choice of mesh

Each practical session will also focus on the immediate anatomy of the structures operated on and their adjacent structures, broadening and consolidating participants’ anatomical knowledge and understanding.

The NETI Basic Colonoscopy Workshop is specifically designed for Advanced Trainees.

  • Live colonoscopy demonstrations broadcast from the endoscopy suite utilising the Olympus  magnetic  imager  “ScopeGuide”;
  • Short, state of the art reviews by local faculty;
  • Hands-on  breakout stations and
  • Interactive panel discussions of clinical challenges in colonoscopy.

The Emergency Management of Severe Burns course teaches how to recognise, assess, stabilise and transfer the severely burnt patient.

The course is aimed at health professionals who may find themselves caring for person with an acute severe burn injury. It supplements existing clinical knowledge in trauma management with the specific aspects and challenges associated with a burn injury.
