CTEC 2023 - Core Skills: Laparoscopic General Surgery

This cadaveric Laparoscopic General Surgery Trainee workshop provides Junior General Surgical Trainees with the opportunity to learn new skills in a range of procedures in minimal access surgery.  Limited places are available for Service Registrars with strong laparoscopic surgical experience and for Theatre Nurses in the role of assistant. Trainees will deepen their understanding and skills through a combination of presentations, demonstrations and practical cadaveric sessions.

The workshop aims to improve operative knowledge and confidence in commonly performed laparoscopic general surgical procedures. It is of particular relevance to Trainees about to commence or in the early stages of a rotation in general surgery.

Participants will have the opportunity to utilise a direct visualisation and guidance system during the laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedure.  Each practical session will also focus on the immediate anatomy of the structures operated on and their adjacent structures, broadening and consolidating participants’ anatomical knowledge and understanding

Suitable for: Accredited Registrars, Junior General Surgery SET Trainees and GSET Level 2-3 Trainees. Limited places for Service Registrars with strong laparoscopic surgical experience and for Theatre Nurses in the role of assistant.

  • Laparoscopic extraperitoneal inguinal hernia and choice of mesh

2023 Simulation Workshop 3

On behalf of General Surgeons Australia and the Victorian/Tasmanian Training Committee, it is with pleasure that we invite you to participate in the 2023 Simulation Workshops.

There will be three simulation workshops on offer for trainees and SIMGs to attend which is being coordinated by Dr Fiona Reid and Dr Chiu Kang. Each workshop is convened by experts in the field.

As these workshops are being offered free of charge, we anticipate that they will be extremely popular. Places will be offered on a first-come first served basis.

Note: Due to the workshops being offered free of charge, any Trainee or SIMG who registers but does not attend will be prohibited from attending any future simulation workshops.

Objective

Introduce the trainee to the principles of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, covering the two techniques commonly used in Australia today. Participants will also be given the opportunity to practice the manoeuvres required to perform this procedure safely.
