Canberra Hospital
Location: Yamba Drive, Canberra ACT
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Canberra Hospital is a tertiary referral and teaching hospital within the ACT. The Department of General Surgery is part of the Division of Surgery, which comprises all the major surgical subspecialties, the fast majority with accredited training programs.
The Department of General Surgery exists of three elective teams (General/Endocrine Surgery, Colorectal Surgery and Upper GI & HPB) as well as Emergency General Surgery (EGS) and the Trauma Service. As Post Graduate Fellow, you will be working alongside non-accredited and accredited registrars and consultants with the aim to deliver a 24/7 comprehensive service to the community.
During the year you will rotate in 3x 4-months rotations in EGS, Trauma and elective Colorectal Surgery. The EGS is based on a NON-subspeciality model, meaning that you will be exposed and expected to (operatively) manage the full scope of emergency patients. The Trauma rotation will include covering the General/Endocrine Surgery theatres. The Upper GI & HPB rotation is an ANZHPBA recognized training position and only available if remaining vacant.
This position is very suitable to strengthen the core qualities of General Surgery and we supervise with the aim of promoting and supporting independence.
