Flinders Medical Centre

Location: Flinders Drive, Bedford Park, SA

The SA Liver Transplant Unit based at Flinders Medical Centre has been involved in liver transplant training for more than a decade.

Flinders Medical Centre performs about 20 to 25 cases of liver transplants a year and closer to 25 in recent years. The liver transplant training is usually performed in conjunction with ANZHPB training. Most years, we have a ANZHPB fellow involved in HPB and Liver transplant work and at the same time able to qualify the number requirement for liver transplant trainee requirement.

Liver Transplantation

Transplant and donor numbers per year:

SA Liver transplant unit performs 25 liver transplants per year and as there only one fellow, this person can have exposure to all of these including organ retrieval. With links to the hepatobiliary unit there is also exposure to a range of hepatopancreatobiliary procedures.

Opportunities on the Unit:

Excellent academic approach and strongly consultant delivered service with much hands-on training. For those trainees who wish to be transplant-focussed, there is an opportunity to do renal transplant work across town as well. There are abundant research opportunities at FMC.
